Album Notes
This album was composed alongside Cosmic Dandy, Galactic Tea and Dwellings. While it ended up including a couple of acoustic tracks, it was initially intended to include only electric songs, and in its earlier form included Cute Porcupine, When I Road Out, Scruff, 'Tis a Dirty Spaceship and Happy Hour. As I streamlined my albums, stripping out weaker songs (or at least ones I didn't feel fitted the album concepts), those songs migrated out and other fragments were added until it captured most of what I felt was appropriate.
As the lyrics are sparse, there's not much to say other than the songs were broadly inspired by rock and blues scales I was experimenting with, and as such mostly came out of improvising. Although the songs were mostly written between 1992 to around 1994, many drawn from tabulated figures, Super Troppo was written in a single setting from some improvised phrases which were then collated in a single improvised recording in the mid- to late- 2000s around the same time as Pequod, which in turn was perhaps 50% improvised. Jazz Bottle is the youngest song, written around 2019 or so. Otherwise the only changes were finagling what tracks were included, their order, renaming a few to suit the title, and adding a few more layers in the final recordings.
